SKIPPER BUXTON PRAISES FANS

15 January 2018

BURTON Albion captain Jake Buxton has praised the Burton Albion’s “outstanding” fans for their loyalty during the team’s poor run of form at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Brewers have now gone 10 home games in a row without a win, of which they have lost nine. Buxton is thankful that the fans have kept supporting the team during a difficult period.

He said: “The fans have been outstanding with us, they aren’t getting on our backs, they aren’t getting frustrated and we aren’t getting screamed at. There is nothing for us to fear with the supporters, they have been outstanding for us.”

The on-field captain thinks that the Burton fans that have seen the side play away from home will be as frustrated as the players that the team’s away form has not been carried over into home games, but Buxton says that Burton must pick up a result at home soon to repay the supporters.

He said: “The 400 fans that come away from home are probably scratching their heads as much as we (the players) are. It is tough, because the performances away from home have been very solid, we have been resilient and we have looked a threat on the counter attack. At home, it seems to be a little bit different.

“Like I have said, the supporters have been outstanding but we have to put in a performance because I am sure that they will start turning if we can’t get a result at home.”
