MATCH REPORT: SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC 2-0 BURTON ALBION UNDER 18S

16 July 2018

A goal in each half handed South Normanton Athletic a pre-season win, despite a strong performance from the Burton Albion under 18s

Despite the Young Brewers being in control for much of the opening stages, the first big chance fell to the hosts. A curling ball got behind the Burton defence but was smashed wide from a dangerous position.

The opening goal was gifted to South Normanton when the Brewers conceded possession inside their own penalty area. Despite pressure from the Burton defence, the hosts were able to slot it home.

The Young Brewers had much of the ball towards the end of the first-half but did not forge a real opening until the second-period. Emmanuel Shittu drove at the South Normanton defence and slipped the ball to Kyle Clamp. The forward twisted and turned in the box, before unleashing a low drive which was deflected onto the woodwork.

The hosts doubled their advantage late-on when they broke in-behind the Brewers’ defence and lobbed Jack Livesey in the Burton goal.

The Young Brewers are next in action when they face Tamworth at the Lamb Ground on Saturday.
