CLOUGH HOPES TO ADD NEW FACES TO HIS SQUAD

5 June 2018

NIGEL Clough hopes to bring in a couple of new signings to freshen up his squad.

The Albion manager has already stated that he wants to keep the squad that came so close to securing Championship survival together but that doesn’t mean he has ruled out adding to it.

He said: “As much as you want to keep the squad together you still need a fresh face or two and we will have those in.

“There are one or two permanents possible. We won’t know for a few weeks yet depending on who stays out of the lads who have been offered contracts.

“There is room to add especially in midfield after losing Luke Murphy and Jacob Davenport and potentially Hope Akpan.”

Clough hopes his team will all be fit and ready for pre-season training on July 2.

Liam Boyce picked up a knock playing for Northern Ireland at the weekend, but the manager has called the player to confirm that he will be OK.

Ben Turner and Will Miller are also expected to be fit by July.

Clough said: “We will do a harder pre-season. The players know that and have been given a programme for the summer. You have to be fitter in League One than in the Championship.

“Ben Turner had a small operation at the end of the season on on his ankle to clean some stuff out but that has gone well.

“Will Miller is on course to be back for pre-season after his knee injury. It’s the intention he will start on July 2 the same as everyone else. He will seem like a new signing when he comes back in.”
