BREWERS TO HOST ASTON VILLA IN BASS CHARITY VASE GAME

7 June 2018

BURTON Albion will play Aston Villa in this year’s Bass Charity Vase game at the Pirelli Stadium.

The pre-season clash for one of the most valuable trophies in English football will take place at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday July 21 (3pm kick-off).

Aston Villa narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, losing 1-0 at Wembley to Fulham in the recent play-off final.

The Brewers lost the Bass Vase last season going down 1-0 to West Brom.

The Bass Charity Vase game is always the highlight of Burton Albion’s pre-season programme with the historic trophy at stake and an opportunity to raise money for local good causes.

The winner of the match will be awarded the Bass Charity Vase.

Ticket prices for this game and our friendly against Cardiff City are as follows:

Terrace:

Adult: £10.00

Under-17: £5.00

Seating:

Adult: £15.00

Under-17: £10.00

Car park spaces are available at the ground on a first-come, first-served basis for £5.

Tickets are not yet on sale for this game - an on-sale date will be announced soon.

The Bass Charity Vase was founded in Burton in 1889 as a football competition to be competed for annually by major teams, particularly Football League clubs. The proceeds from the games would be donated mainly to medical-related and hospital charities.

Its patrons were Lord Burton and Hamar Alfred Bass, who presented a magnificent inscribed silver Rose Bowl (reputed to be one of the most valuable trophies in British football) to be held by the competition winners.

Many famous clubs and players have taken part since the competition started.

Innovation has been a key to its continuing success: even during the difficult times of the two World Wars, the competition took place. Coalville Munitions Girls won during the Great War and a Royal Artillery team was successful during the Second World War.

Other past winners include Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Coventry City, Derby County, Leicester City, Liverpool, Notts County, Nottingham Forest, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion.

The Bass Charity Vase celebrated its centenary in 1989 when with extra efforts and additional events more than £25,000 was donated to charities.

The charity continues to support good causes every year.
