CLOUGH PRAISES DEFENCE AHEAD OF SHEFFIELD UNITED GAME

13 March 2018

NIGEL Clough has praised his defence after the clean sheet against Bristol City.

The Brewers have been without Ben Turner and John Brayford but still notched up a third clean sheet in the last six matches on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s trip to Sheffield United (7.45pm kick off) Clough said: “Kyle McFadzean has been excellent these last few weeks.

"The partnership he has formed with Tom Naylor is a good foundation out there. They are a  good partnership and the person who is suffering from that is Jake Buxton. Hres very unlucky not be in the team. He’s our captain and we would like him out there and if he played a different position he would probably be playing. But those two have been doing so well.

“When we left Kyle out a couple of months ago we felt he deserved to be left out. But if you want an example of how a player takes that and knuckles down then Kyle has done that and since he has been back in the team he has been one of our most consistent players.

“Damien McCrory has played a part as well - coming back from injury in good shape.

“Everybody has come in and done their jobs and that includes defending from the front. Lloyd Dyer is as a good a defender as we have got and has filled in at left back as well. When you have a small squad people have to fill in where needed.”
