EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SCORING, SAYS CLOUGH

15 March 2018

NIGEL Clough says that responsibility for scoring goals has to be shared by the whole team.

The Brewers boss is frustrated that a lack of goals is costing his team dear even though performances are good and his team are creating chances.

He said: “You don’t score goals and you cant win and despite all the good things happening in games, until someone scores goals for us then it will be the same old story, a pat on the back missed chances but we lost the game.

“We are missing chances throughout the team, not just the strikers. Darren Bent has missed a few, Liam Boyce a good one on Saturday but all throughout the team we have to take responsibility for scoring and stopping the opposition scoring.

“The players are being encouraged in training to get shots off and hit the target but when you are in a game situation, not scoring and not confident, there is a tendency to push it to one side for someone else to have a go.

“If we were not creating anything then with nine games to go it would be more worrying but we are still in with a chance. In a lot of other seasons we would be adrift by now but to be only three points off despite our bad run and low points tally means we are still in with a fighting chance but we have to start winning sooner or later and it might have to be at Wolves or Cardiff.”
