SAMUELSEN MISSES OUT ON UNDER 21 INTERNATIONALS

20 March 2018

MARTIN Samuelsen has missed out on joining the Norway Under 21 team during the international break due to his continuing illness.

The midfielder on loan from West Ham has returned to his parent club after being dogged by illness that forced him to miss the trip to Wolves on Saturday.

Nigel Clough said: "He hasn't been able to travel as he still doesn't feel right.

"He's gone back down to West Ham to have some tests this week, and then we'll know a bit more later in the week as to how he is."

Norway Under 21s play Italy on March 22 in Perugia and Israel in Tel Aviv on March 27.

A full Norwegian international with three caps for the senior side and one goal, Samuelsen will be disappointed to miss out on the chance to make further progress in the Norway national set up.

The 20-year-old arrived at the Pirelli Stadium in January 2018 on loan from the  Premier League side and made an impressive start for the Brewers before being sidelined by illness.

Clough said: "Martin's had problems with viruses. At the start of the season he had a throat infection which ended up in him having an operation.

"He had his tonsils out, so it could be a recurrence of something like that."
