EGERT: 'WE BELIEVE THAT WE WILL STAY IN THE LEAGUE'

29 March 2018

BURTON Albion are positive about their chances of Championship survival, according to defender Tomas Egert.

The Brewers are currently second from bottom in the Championship table with eight games to go as they prepare for tomorrow’s away trip to high-flying Cardiff City.

“It is a massive challenge but everybody in the club believes that we can stay in the league, no doubts about it. We are 100% focussed on each match and training. I believe that we can make it.

“Everybody is positive, we believe 100% that we will stay in the league. We are just focusing on our game, we play good football.”

Egert made his debut for the club in Burton Albion’s 3-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defender was introduced to the action in the final 10 minutes of the match and he says that he enjoyed the experience.

He said: “It was huge, almost 30,000 people. I enjoyed myself, we had nothing to lose in the match so I am happy that the manager gave me the chance to show that I can play at this level and I hope that I did not disappoint.”

Cardiff City are Burton’s next opponents. The Bluebirds, managed by ex-Brewers boss Neil Warnock, are currently second in the table and eying promotion to the Premier League. Egert says that playing against the bigger teams in the division is something that he is looking forward to.

He said: It is a challenge for me, it is a challenge for everybody. In the Czech Republic, there is not much fan attendance in the football stadiums. I don’t put pressure in my head, I know that pressure belongs in football but I am used to it. I have been a professional from 18-years-old and it is really nice to play in full stadiums.”
