CLOUGH LOOKING TO MAKE DECISION ON EVTIMOV

13 November 2018

NIGEL Clough will be looking to make a decision on goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov’s situation in the next few days.

The former Nottingham Forest keeper has been on a short-term contract with the Brewers after both Stephen Bywater and Brad Collins picked up injuries. But with Collins now back in action and Bywater nearing recovery, he has to decide if his budget can stretch to include another keeper.

Clough said: “We are still discussing Dimitar’s situation and he is away this weekend on international duty.

“Stephen should be training in the middle of this week and, if he does, he will go back on the bench on Saturday, and Brad will stay in goal. With the number of games we have got, and the importance of the Carabao Cup quarter final, we want to make sure we are covered.

“We would love to have Dimitar around as he has been brilliant and to have three goalkeepers challenging for the No 1 spot would be a lovely position to be in.”

Injuries in the goalkeeping department are easing but Clough has other worries ahead of Saturday’s home game against Coventry City.

He said: “Marvin Sordell has a slight knee strain and is touch and go for Saturday, although he will want to get out there against his former club. Reece Hutchinson is coming on well, but Ben Turner will be a bit longer. There were also a few knocks on Saturday for Kyle McFadzean, John Brayford and Devante Cole’s groin is sore – so they are the ones we are keeping an eye on.

“Ben Fox has a hamstring strain. We will see how he goes but he will have to train on Friday to be in the squad.”
