CLOUGH NEEDS MIDFIELD TRIO TO REMAIN FIT

22 November 2018

NIGEL Clough believes it’s important that his midfield “engine room” stays fit if the Brewers are to make progress in League One.

Albion are struggling with injuries to the likes of Ben Turner, Ben Fox, Marvin Sordell and Reece Hutchinson but the first-choice midfield trio of Jamie Allen, Scott Fraser and Stephen Quinn should be available for Saturday’s trip to Blackpool.

The Brewers manager said: “I wish we had a fully fit squad going into the two games. It’s a bit frustrating as after the ten-day break we will have most people back for Shrewsbury. It’s just getting something from these next two with a few out.

“It’s important that the midfield three stay fit. They are the engine room of the team. Jamie Allen and Scott Fraser are making good runs and getting us forward and Stephen Quin is anchoring it all.

“The back four were much improved after Scunthorpe and didn’t make any mistakes and that’s the attitude we need to take into Saturday and beyond.

“You also need a few little things to go in your favour when you are playing the better teams which Blackpool and Charlton are.

“We said before Coventry that the next three games would go a long way to seeing if we would be in contention. If we don’t get something from the next two games these teams will extend that lead from four to eight or more points and suddenly even at this stage it’s a big margin, so it’s important that we narrow the gap and not let it widen.”
