CLOUGH WANTS A BIT MORE SHARPNESS TO SEE OFF SOUTHEND

1 October 2018

NIGEL Clough will ask his team to be a little bit sharper tomorrow as they look to keep the good run of home form going against Southend (kick off 7.45pm).

The Brewers manager said: "We will try not to let Southend settle and will look to get after them from the start. We always try and start quickly both home and away.

"They have a very good manager in Chris Powell and they are one of those teams that if we are not on our game are more than capable of taking the points here.

"We will look to keep the level of performance high and try and be a little bit more fluent than we were against Scunthorpe. We will look to do the same things but better. When we do play well not many teams will get close to us.

"We will concentrate on ourselves but try and be a bit sharper with our finishing."

Marvin Sordell was ill last week and was taken off on Saturday in the second half. David Templeton took  a couple of knocks against Scunthorpe. Captain Jake Buxton returned to the bench as he recovers from a back problem.

Clough said: "We hope to get everyone back out there and they have to get used to keep on playing Saturday and Tuesday.

"It's good to have Jake back but he's not quite ready to start a game yet but will keep building up in training."
