THERE was a Royal visit to the Pirelli Stadium as HRH The Duke of Gloucester came to take a first hand look at the work of Burton Albion Community Trust.
The Duke was given a tour of the BACT building by the charity's Chairman John Jackson and was introduced to staff members who explained about the diverse range of programmes they delivered.
He met members of the Golden Goal Liaison Group and also went out onto the community 3G pitch to watch a walking football exhibition featuring BACT's Over 50s footballers and participants in the BACT Mental Health Football Programme.
Brewers first team players Marvin Sordell and David Templeton dropped in to meet the footballers as well.
Also on hand to greet the Royal visitor were Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson, BACT Head of Community Matt Hancock, The Mayor of East Staffordshire Councillor Chris Smith and his wife the Lady Mayoress Jane Smith, Susan Arnold, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, and the Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire Ian Dudson
Before he left the Duke unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the completion of the Burton Albion Community Football Centre and he took time out to praise the charity's work saying that BACT, like the football club, was "punching above its weight" when it came to making an impact in the community.
