BURTON Albion players are keeping fit and ready for the rigours of League One football by joining forces with Hotpod Yoga Derby - soon to be open in Burton.
With games coming thick and fast for The Brewers, Albion’s first team squad have been benefitting from a series of classes in Derby over the last six months.
The immersive classes offer an active and passive flow of postures in an other-worldly 20 person inflatable Pod – heated to 37 degrees to supercharge the yoga experience.
Afterwards the players feel a little calmer, a little looser, if a good deal sweatier with classes improving on flexibility, strength, endurance as a form of active recovery.
The Brewers sport scientist Chris Beardsley said: “It’s a long hard season for the first team squad with all the league and cup games and health and fitness of the players is a top priority.
“We are delighted to have been able to link up with Hotpod Yoga so the players can benefit from these unique classes.
“We feel that by bringing it into the training schedule, we’re going to aid recovery especially in a two-or-three game week, taking away muscle soreness and fatigue.
“We worked with it through the final month of last season and saw the recovery levels were of a much higher standard, with the players able to play in intense games, recover in two or three days and go again.”
Leah McLaren from Hotpod Yoga said: “It's an absolute pleasure training the team. They bring their all to sessions every week, even when tired and dehydrated after a game they stay focussed and dedicated to attending.
“We allow them to switch off from their daily lives and pressures, we always finish with relaxation.
“Growing up in Burton and having a family of Brewers supporters makes it even more special and I can't wait to bring a studio closer to home in Burton very soon."
