INJURY UPDATE: WALSALL

31 October 2018

NIGEL Clough will have to patch up his injury-hit squad ready for Saturday's trip to Walsall (kick off 3pm).

The Brewers were without Ben Turner, Damien McCrory and Reece Hutchinson from the starting line-up in the Carabao Cup victory last night and Will Miller pulled up in the warm up.

The 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest also came at a high cost with several members of the team picking up knocks.

Brewers manager Nigel Clough said: "On the treatment table at the moment are Stephen Quinn, Kyle McFadzean, David Templeton and Jake Buxton as well.

"We will leave it until Friday, even Saturday morning before seeing who is available.

"We have added Kieran Wallace to the squad as back-up. He's left-footed and when you have all three left-footed defenders (Hutchinson, Turner and McCrory) all out we need that.

"Jake Buxton is having an injection today and couldn't have done more than he did last night and he's left-sided as well. With four left-sided defenders out that's a problem with the balance.

"Lucas Akins continues to surprise everyone with his versatlity playing left-back last night. His attitude as well to move positions and give the same amount of effort and not be worried about it is brilliant.

"We tried Scott Fraser at left-back in training and he was petrified he might be playing there and I think his two goals came from the relief that he was in midfield not left-back.

"But that speaks volumes for Lucas as modern day players don't want to move and he slots in and gives it everything. He's a manager's dream."
