ACADEMY VERDICT: SCUNTHORPE VS YOUNG BREWERS

5 September 2018

SAM Rose felt that the Young Brewers deserved more than a single point, after the under 18s were held to a 0-0 draw by Scunthorpe United.

The Brewers came into the game after a Youth Alliance Cup defeat to Mansfield Town, having beaten Oldham Athletic 3-0 in the previous league game.

Professional Development Phase Lead Coach, Rose was pleased with the performance of the team, and thinks that Albion could have got more from the game.

He said: “It is a second clean sheet of the season, which is a big positive. We have been working on defending as a team, so to limit the opposition to very few clear-cut chances was a positive.

“We were definitely on top for large periods of the game and we really should have scored. I think if we had scored, then we could have comfortably won the game.

“The performance was closer to what we want from the boys. We are using our win over Oldham as a marker, Scunthorpe was a lot closer to that both individually and as a team.”
