CLOUGH LOOKS FOR IMPROVEMENT IN AWAY FORM

7 September 2018

NIGEL Clough is looking for an improvement in his team’s away form as they travel to Accrington tomorrow (kick off 3pm).

Albion have yet to pick up a point on their away travels in League One, in contrast to last season where it was the home form that was the issue.

Clough said: “We need to start turning our losses into draws first and foremost. If we can win the game brilliant but after three defeats at Gillingham, Bradford and Oxford even with three draws we would be on the edge of the play offs and three more points on the board.

“It’s about not making mistakes and doing things a bit better. It’s funny how it has changed around. Here at the Pirelli we now feel very confident, but we are a bit shaky on the road and the only way to improve that is to get a point or three.

“You see the difference to confidence when you get the result.”

The Albion boss says that adding four new signings to his squad before the loan window shuts will give him more strength in depth as the Brewers look to move up the table.

He said: “You want players fighting for the shirts on the pitch and fighting to just get on the bench. We want them to be desperate to get on and show what they can do. That’s healthy competition. We have just over 20 in the squad and 12 are 23 or under which is a large per centage, so we have a lot in the same bracket and you can’t in League One play a totally young team, but you can sprinkle them in and give them some experience along the way.”
