CLOUGH LOOKING TO KEEP GOOD FORM GOING AT BARNSLEY

21 September 2018

NIGEL Clough is looking for another good performance at Barnsley as the Brewers look to build on their improving form with a first away win of the season.

But having been relegated alongside the Brewers last season, Barnsley have made a strong start to the current campaign and are in third place having lost only once – to Coventry last Saturday.

The Brewers manager said: “They banished the relegation blues a bit quicker than we did and started very strongly.

“They kept the majority of the squad together, that will have helped them, and the biggest thing we fear on Saturday is the reaction to the defeat last week.

“To lose late on at Coventry will have given them a bit of a jolt and they will be looking to get back on track. That’s the biggest thing we have to beware of.”

The Brewers won last season at Oakwell and two years ago earned a point and guaranteed a second season of Championship football.

Clough said: “The first half last year was as well as we had played for quite some time. Jamie Allen scored the Goal of the Season and Jacob Davenport put a great free kick in and although we were under a lot of pressure in the second half we got a great three points

“The year before Luke Varney sealed our Championship survival by getting us a point there. So recent history is of some good memories there.

“On Saturday our aim is to just keep the consistency of the performances going. We are great believers that if you play well regularly the results will come.”
