NIGEL Clough was pleased to be able to give more players game time as the Brewers played a friendly against Shrewsbury Town at St. George’s Park this afternoon.
A Brewers side consisting of Callum Hawkins, Jake Flannigan, Jake Buxton, Elliot Hodge, Joe Sbarra, Will Miller and Devante Cole, among others faced John Askey’s side in a 2-1 defeat.
Jake Buxton played 45 minutes before being replaced, with Ben Fox also playing 45 minutes in the second-half. Under 18s player Ben Hart also featured in the game against a strong Shrewsbury side.
Clough was pleased that everybody came through the game injury-free, with the players able to gain valuable match fitness, although Harry Campbell missed the game with flu.
He said: “Jake Buxton played 45 minutes, which was the plan. Ben Fox played a half with him coming on last night and everybody else who needed to played 90 minutes.
“They put out a strong team, which we knew they would because I spoke to John Askey earlier in the week and he said it would be the first team squad, those that weren’t playing, so a lot of senior players in there, it was a good game for us.”
