BOYCE PLEASED WITH TOP SCORER BATTLE

7 April 2019

LIAM Boyce has welcomed Lucas Akins’ challenge to be Burton Albion’s top scorer this season, but the forward does not care who wins as long as the Brewers are doing well.

The Northern Ireland forward’s strike against Barnsley fired him back to the top of Albion’s scoring charts after Akins had equalled his previous total of 11 with a hat-trick against Accrington Stanley a fortnight ago.

Boyce admits that he wants to finish as the club’s top goalscorer this season, but he would be pleased to see Akins get the recognition, especially if it means that the Brewers are performing well.

He said: “If there is anyone that I would want to be (top scorer), it would be Lucas because he is probably the nicest guy I have every met.

“He loves scoring goals and we love winning. That is how we are as a team, just to see anyone doing well and scoring goals is brilliant.

“He is the first person to congratulate you when you score. I just want to score as many goals as I can. I don’t think about anybody else scoring goals, I just think that I need to score.

“If we have two players scoring 15-20 goals in a season, then we are doing well as a team.”
