PREVIEW: SUNDERLAND VS BREWERS

9 April 2019

AFTER playing their last three games at the Pirelli Stadium, the Brewers travel to Sunderland this evening, hoping to do the double over the Black Cats (7:45PM kick-off).

HEAD 2 HEAD

Three league meetings between Burton Albion and Sunderland have taken place, with Albion winning the two most recent encounters.

Chris Coleman was in charge of Sunderland for the first two games, winning the maiden clash at the Pirelli Stadium, before Nigel Clough’s side came out on top at the Stadium of Light in a thrilling match.

The Brewers also won at home earlier this season, when goals from Jamie Allen and Kyle McFadzean secured a 2-1 victory.

BURTON ALBION TEAM NEWS

Jake Buxton and Kyle Mcfadzean are both doubts for the game, while David Templeton is likely to miss the game through injury.

Will Miller is also a doubt for tonight’s game due to a bout of illness that has affected the camp, which McFadzean has also been suffering with.

SUNDERLAND TEAM NEWS

Lee Cattermole, Reece James, Duncan Watmore  and Adam Matthews will all miss the game through injury. The four are just part of a key group of Sunderland players doubtful for the match.

Midfielders Aiden McGeady and Lynden Gooch could also be out due to foot and groin injuries respectively.

OFFICIALS

Scott Oldham is the referee tonight. The Lancashire referee has been in charge of 12 League One games, giving 47 yellow cards in that time.

Oldham is yet to send a player off in League One this season, but he has given two penalties. He was the referee when Albion faced Bristol Rovers away on New Year’s Day.

His assistants tonight are Duncan Street and David Plowright, while Paul Marsden is the fourth official.
