CHARITY BALL FOR THE PIRELLI STADIUM

8 August 2019

COMEDY star Jim Davidson will be heading to the Pirelli Stadium for a charity ball that will help raise funds for the O’Connor Gateway Trust.

The former Big Break and Generation Game host will be joined by musical group Men of Soul and TV auctioneer Charles Hanson at the home of Burton Albion on Saturday, September 14.

The black-tie evening includes a five-course dinner with the proceeds going to help the work the O’Connor Gateway Charitable Trust undertakes in Burton.

The trust helps people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction and operates Langan’s Tea Rooms in Burton, which is run by service users who have undergone abstinence-based rehabilitation.

Burton Albion Chairman Ben Robinson said: "We are delighted to once again be able to host The O'Connor Gateway Trust Charity Ball at the Pirelli Stadium and I'm sure it will be another great event. I hope everyone enjoys the evening especially knowing that the proceeds will support the brilliant work the charity does in the town in supporting the well-being of people who have undergone drug and alcohol rehabilitation and giving them a vital helping hand reintegrating into the community."

The trust’s founder and Managing Director Noreen Oliver said: “For someone who has been through rehab at The Burton Addiction Centre, the value of positive change cannot be underestimated. Alongside someone’s addiction, we must address the other issues that hold individuals back, limiting their capacity to improve their own life, having a stable family life, a safe place to live, good overall health and feelings of self-worth all these are vital in supporting a full and lasting recovery. This is the vital work undertaken by The O’Connor Gateway Charitable Trust breaking the cycle of addiction, reducing crime in our community and dependence upon the state.

“Our annual charitable ball is a great night, good food, fun and an amazing soul and Motown band. We are eternally grateful to the people of Burton and the support from the community has been just amazing as have our trustees, one of whom is Ben Robinson ,who not only hosts our ball but supports us in all the organising and raising awareness of the ball and our work.

“Jim Davidson every year travels to Burton and entertains on the night for free and supports our work. Charles Hanson is an amazing and entertaining auctioneer and if you like soul and Motown I promise this will be one of the best bands you will hear, so please come and join us. “
