CLOUGH SAYS CONFIDENCE IS THE KEY FOR BREWERS

12 August 2019

AFTER picking up a first League One win at Gillingham on Saturday, Burton Albion are in Carabao Cup First Round action tomorrow night away at Port Vale (7.45pm kick off).

The Brewers made the semi-finals after a history-making run in the competition last year and will be looking to make progress again this season.

Nigel Clough will not be looking to make changes after the 2-1 success at Priestfield but will have Stephen Quinn back in contention after he was suspended for Saturday’s game after being sent off in the season opener against Ipswich.

But Clough will have to see how two of his defenders are ahead of the short journey to Vale Park.

He said “Jake Buxton felt something in the warm up, and we will see how he is. We are still waiting on Richard Nartey (hamstring). He was only on the bench in case of emergency on Saturday.”

The Brewers manager says his team will be in confident mood after the Gillingham victory.

He said: “We didn’t deserve to lose to Ipswich and getting three points on the board straight after that means we are really looking forward to Port Vale and Rotherham this week.

“Confidence is going to be massive, we saw that at the end of last season. The way we were playing at times at Gillingham I don’t think there are too many better teams in the division and confidence is key.

“Scott Fraser was outstanding and looked a threat every time he picked the ball up. He was central to a lot of the good things we did.”
