MANAGER'S VERDICT: MORECAMBE

27 August 2019

NIGEL Clough said it was job done for the Brewers after they overcame Morecambe 4-0 to make it through to Round Three of the Carabao Cup.

The Brewers manger said: "Four goals, a clean sheet and a hat-trick for Liam Boyce was a good night. The only downside was Colin Daniel coming off with a hamstring problem with a few minutes to go.

"Liam's got three tonight in the six-yard box. The first one is a great header from a corner, the other two are what you call scrappy striker's goals where he got a toe on them. It's our second hat-trick in a week and the second time we have scored four goals.

"It's also always nice to keep a clean sheet - that was our second in a few days.

"I thought Stephen Quinn was very good tonight and got through 90 minutes which he needed. Scott Fraser was very good again and Ryan Edwards popped up with his first goal. They are the engine room for us.

"Even at 4-0 we were still going forward and trying to create, Joe Sbarra has got in and nearly got a goal. Lucas could have scored from another great corner from David Templeton. I thought we looked good and kept the ball and never gave them any encouragement.

"It's a great result for confidence, especially as it's our first home win of the season. It's a big week for us and Bristol Rovers on Saturday is another important game. We go now and get ready for that game as that's the one we really need to win."
