LADIES LOOK TO TAKE CUP FORM INTO LEAGUE

6 December 2019

BURTON Albion Ladies manager James Billings hopes his team can emulate their cup form in the league as they host Bedworth on Sunday (2pm kick off at Rocester FC).

The Albion have put in some notable performances against the likes of West Bromwich Albion but are yet to pick up a point in the league.

Hayleigh Sutton said: “I hope we can finally get a win, if we create the same performance as we did against West Brom, then a win is brewing.

“I think to have that where you still play well even though you aren’t getting results, it boosts the team’s confidence so hopefully we can still perform and then try and get the result.”

The Brewers have had great success in the Birmingham Senior Cup so far this season with a 7-2 victory against Coventrians last time round.

Billings explained: “The cup is more relaxed; the pressure comes off more than when we are competing in the league. I think we have made a few changes in the games and I think the girls themselves are a little bit more relaxed, there’s not as much pressure on that it is a cup game.

“I think it is one of those mindset type things where it is a league game and therefore important; every game is important, but I think they just relax a little more in the cup.”

Billings side are currently having to learn on the job with the manager implementing new ideas to the group.

He said: "I’m doing things maybe differently to what they have had in the past so it is a case of getting that in them as quick as we can. Obviously, it’s not ideal a few games into the season, we have just got to try and get what we can, as and when and go from there.”

The Brewers are back in FA Women’s National League Division One action after a long-awaited return to their home ground. However, Billings will be without Fiona Lane who picked up a hamstring injury in last week’s fixture against The New Saints.

Billings said: “The girls are learning new stuff in training that they are putting into practice and it is just one of those things where it is just going to click, and we can see everything we are trying to work on.”

Brewers fans will hope this game will be the game where the side can execute a performance that will see them pick up their first three points of the season.
