BURTON Albion Ladies are set to return to cup action this Sunday as they face Stockington AA Pavilion Ladies in the Birmingham Senior County Cup on the 3G pitch at the Pirelli Stadium (kick off 2pm).
In the previous round the Brewers saw of Coventrian Ladies to progress and First Team coach Ben Webster knows that the team need to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat.
“We’re looking for a positive and enthusiastic reaction from last week,” he said.
“The girls know last week's performance and result was below the standards we expect of them, and it’s up to them to put it right this week. They’ve got to be expressive and accurate with the ball but hardworking and aggressive without it.
“If we do those things, hopefully it will give us the performance and result we need to progress into the semi-final of the Birmingham Senior Cup.”
With the winter break in the not so distant future, defender Ella Doocey knows the importance of this weekend’s game.
She said: “The game this weekend will give us the chance to come back from the defeat.
“How we perform this weekend could really impact on the rest of the season. With a positive result, us getting through to the next round, the attitude and work rate of the whole team in training and future league games could change for the better.”
With the cup entering the quarter final stage Webster knows how important the cup could become to the team as the season goes on.
“There is a bigger importance to get through to the next round of the cup,” he said.
“The girls have played some good football in this competition, and hopefully they can replicate that this week in the in the quarter final to put us into the draw for the semi final.
"It’s also important that we take our good cup form into the league. Our point of the view as the coaching staff is that it’s been frustrating that we haven’t been able to replicate our cup form in the league as of yet.”
The Brewers have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the weekend.
Fiona Lane is definitely out with a hamstring injury and won’t return until after the Christmas break.
Hayleigh Sutton will be involved at the weekend after picking up 60 minutes in a training game over the weekend and Grace Browne is set to return to the matchday squad after 12 weeks out with an ankle problem.
The Brewers are looking to move on from last weekend’s defeat and will play Stockington on the 3G at the Pirelli stadium this weekend.
