CLOUGH EXPECTS ANOTHER TOUGH GAME AT ACCRINGTON

27 December 2019

NIGEL Clough says that you never get an easy game against Accrington and he is expecting a tough test between two in-form teams.

The Brewers have scored back-to-back home victories while Accrington followed up a 4-1 success against Portsmouth with a draw at Doncaster and a win on Boxing Day at Blackpool.

Clough said: “We have been going up to Accrington for more than 20 years and have not had one easy game. Us and Accrington have two of the lowest average crowds in the league and what John Coleman does up there is brilliant and he always makes them competitive and it’s always a challenging place to go.

“They are a good solid League One side and their results quite often surprise a few people and on their day, when it clicks they can beat anybody.”

The Brewers have scored seven goals in the last two outings but had to put in a shift against both Rochdale and Tranmere.

Clough said: “We have to be on it physically with so many games close together. I hope we get our legs back in time and that we are able to compete. These two home games we have had to put an awful lot of effort in and I hope we have something left for Accrington and Bolton.

"We have put in two great performances to get two home wins and we need to follow it up now with two tough trips on the road."

Clough will also be hoping that John Brayford recovers from a niggle picked up on Boxing Day.

“He just felt something tighten up, but hopefully he will be able to get back out there. It’s difficult when you are coming back from an injury like John is and you have to play so many games in a short space of time.”
