CLOUGH LOOKS FOR REPEAT PERFORMANCE AGAINST WALSALL

28 February 2019

NIGEL Clough is hoping for a repeat performance and result when the Brewers play Walsall on Saturday.

Albion ran out 3-1 winners in the away game in November having scored three goals in the first hour.

Clough believes Albion should have earned more results like that one.

He said: “There has been repeat performances we just haven’t got the same result.

“When it comes to our home form, the performances haven’t been the problem – the results have been.

“The five games prior to Saturday (when the Brewer lost 1-0 to Fleetwood) that we lost, the performances were some of best of the season but didn’t translate into results. We played exceptionally well away at Walsall in the first half but also did that here against Gillingham and Charlton and Southend.

“It has been that sort of season. One step forward two steps back but relegation has that sort of effect on clubs. We are not a Barnsley who can spend money and keep a squad together. Sunderland can spend millions on a striker – these are big clubs.”

Clough would also like to give some squad players more minutes but says that isn’t easy at present.

“If we reach the stage with half a dozen games to go where we are definitely going up or down that is an opportunity to give some of the youngsters more game time, but we are far from that point yet.”
