YOUNG BREWERS ATTEND Q&A SESSION WITH SHAUN BARKER

8 January 2019

PLAYERS in the under 15s and 16s teams got the chance to pick the brain of a former club captain when they attended a Q&A session with Shaun Barker.

The former defender has taken on the role of Player Performance Coach within the Academy after retiring from playing at the end of last season.

Barker works predominantly with the under 18s, but will work with younger age groups on a weekly basis to help improve elements of their game throughout their time in the Academy.

He met with the under 15s and 16s at the Pirelli Stadium ahead of their first training session of 2019. During the 30-minute Q&A session, Barker covered a wide-range of topics, including his time coming through the Academy at Rotherham, making his first team debut and later moving to Derby County.

Barker also discussed the serious knee injury that he endured at Derby and gave the players advice on how to deal with setbacks in football, as well as offering tips on what makes a Burton Albion player and what to expect when making the step up to the first team.

The Young Brewers and Academy coaching staff also asked their own questions, which Shaun answered in detail before the trainings session began.
