CLOUGH SAYS IT MIGHT BE A QUIET WEEK ON TRANSFER FRONT

28 January 2019

NIGEL Clough is not expecting a busy week as we head towards transfer deadline day.

The Brewers manager is happy with the options he has in his squad and says he expects it to be a “quiet” week and that any new signings would need to be balanced by someone leaving.

But having already made two signings in Josh Clarke and Colin Daniel, Clough is generally pleased with his squad, especially as the Brewers don’t have too many injury worries.

He said: “Kyle McFadzean has a tight hamstring, Ben Fox is a thigh niggle, but the only real issue is Ben Turner’s calf – it might be four to six weeks.

“You look at the bench on Saturday and we are quite well covered in a lot of positions. Lucas Akins buys us that with his versatility. It means if we do have a problem at right back and Ben Fox is not available then Lucas can go there

“We have David Templeton, Will Miller, Joe Sbarra and Kieran Wallace - who was excellent when he came on. We have a few players who can move around so you don’t need a squad of 25 players.”

Clough is pleased that his squad now has a seven-day break before taking on Oxford at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

“We are a little bit down on energy on Saturday after a very tough week. The players couldn’t have given any more so it’s good that we have a chance to recharge batteries.”
