BREWERS SIGN DEFENDER JEVAN ANDERSON SUBJECT TO INTERNATIONAL CLEARANCE

1 July 2019

BURTON Albion have signed defender Jevan Anderson on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance.

The 19-year-old becomes a Brewer after leaving Formartine United, who currently ply their trade in the Scottish Highland League.

Anderson, a left-sided centre-half and a former Aberdeen youth player, has signed a contract following a successful trial spell with the club earlier in the year.

The young defender trained with his new teammates for the first time on Monday before speaking to iFollow Brewers about his move.

"I can't wait to get started, to be honest with you," Anderson told iFollow Brewers.

"When I came down for my trial at the back-end of last season, it all went well and once it was agreed, I couldn't wait to get down and get started.

"I came down for the first week and trained with the U18s, did well and asked if I could come back down. We played a match on the Tuesday having trained Monday and Wednesday as well.

"After that I spoke to the manager and he said he was happy with how I'd done, and they'd be looking to offer me something. Since then I've been getting myself ready as best as I can for coming down here.

"I'm left-sided, I'd say I'm good in the air and good on the ball as well. But I'm always looking to improve."

"He came on trial with us last season and he impressed us, first with the Academy and then the first team a few times," said manager Nigel Clough.

"We thought he would be worth putting into the system here to see how he does. With the squad being small, he'll get some time in the first team this summer during pre-season games. There aren't too many 6'1" left-footed centre-backs around.

"Aggression is something we'll be looking to bring out of him and hopefully he'll develop that while he's with us."
