PIRELLI STADIUM HOSTS INSPIRING YOUR FUTURE MEDIA DAY

10 July 2019

THE Pirelli Stadium has hosted the latest in a series of ‘Inspiring your Future’ events at the home of Burton Albion, delivering media development workshops to local school students.

The event, run in partnership with the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) and Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT), welcomed students from The de Ferrers Academy, Pingle Academy, Paulet High School, Abbot Beyne School and Thomas Alleyne’s to help build their positive communication skills.

The ‘Inspiring Your Future’ brand aims to bring together groups of local businesses, stakeholders and students to inspire them to focus on their personal development, as they begin to think about work, further education and their future as a whole.

The workshops were led by BBC Sport Outreach Project Manager Shajan Miah, from Salford’s Media City UK, who shared a wealth of experience of outreach to aspiring youngsters.

He said: “The main focus today was about sharing innovative ways to get news stories and information back to the appropriate sources in the most effective ways.

“At the BBC we’re really keen on inspiring our younger audiences and developing their soft skills, such as education, planning and any other skills that may help them to progress in their career.

“It was a privilege to be at Burton Albion Football Club and by hosting these kinds of events at stadiums it helps to give it a much more real perspective on working in the media industry.”

Fleur Robinson, Commercial Director at Burton Albion FC, was delighted to have created and hosted another successful event.

She said: “It has been another fantastic day for the young participants and we’re really pleased with how engaged they all were with the activities and workshop tasks.

“We aim to help them develop their softer skills, such as communicating and expanding from that to a potential career in the media industry.

“Special thanks to the BBC, the PFA and BACT for their support and we hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as we all have at Burton Albion.”
