CLOUGH LOOKING TO ADD TO HIS SQUAD

22 July 2019

NIGEL Clough is looking to boost his Brewers squad before the League One season begins and has targeted three new recruits.

He said: “We have four or five enquiries in for players and one in particular we are very keen on - which would be a loan.

“When you are dealing with Premier League clubs, as we have seen with dealing with Chelsea (Richard Nartey) and Manchester United (Kieran O’Hara), they don’t get done overnight. There are lots of things to be taken into consideration by the parent club so it takes time. But certainly, we will be stepping it up.

“We are prioritising three at the moment we are trying to get in and then we will look at the squad from there as we are still light on numbers.

“The encouraging thing is when the young lads come on – Ethan Vale came on against Derby and Jevan Anderson. If we don’t get players in, then it’s going to benefit them like Reece Hutchinson last season. Everyone we bring in pushes them down the pecking order.”

The Brewers go to Solihull tomorrow night and maybe again without Kieran O’Hara who missed the Rams fixture on Saturday.

Clough said: “Kieran felt his thigh after the Sheffield United game – it was just very stiff so it was just precautionary, and we will see how he is for Saturday at Chesterfield.”

Clough has also ended any interest in triallist Callum Dolan.

He said: “We can’t do anything with him as after Ben Fox’s injury there are other priorities at the moment.”
