MANAGER'S VERDICT: CHESTERFIELD

27 July 2019

NIGEL Clough was pleased with the attacking threat posed by the Brewers at Chesterfield but was disappointed with the chances Albion allowed the home side.

The Brewers ran out 5-2 winners but Chesterfield hit the woodwoork thee times and the score could have been closer.

The Albion manager said: "Going forward we were very good indeed but defensively we gave too much away.

"We have no problems going forward and Ryan Edwards showed the sort of replacement he is going to be for Jamie Allen. When he makes those runs from midfield he will be very hard to track.

"There were some good goals as well, especially the last one. It was a great move and they are goals that even in League One that will be hard to stop.

"I was a little bit disappointed with us defensively, especially with all the experience back there. When you give the ball away after a minute, which you shouldn't do and they score you have to think that might be a winning goal in League One. We can't afford to do that.

"We need a little bit more thought and to make sure we are secure and adapt to the different formations that are thrown at us."

Albion included Oliver Sarkic in the side and Clough says he will be talking to the Leeds United forward.

He said: "He's got a couple of offers from abroad but I will have a chat with him and see fully what the situation is. He's played very little football this season and looked short fitness wise.

"He would be extra to what we were already looking at if we can do something."
