CLOUGH WANTS TO PLAY THE SAME POSITIVE WAY NEXT SEASON

12 June 2019

NIGEL Clough is looking to continue to play the brand of football that served his team well last season.

The Brewers had more possession, more attempts on goal and more completed passes than the opposition in the majority of games last season and Clough is looking to continue playing the attractive, attacking football that was the hallmark for the Brewers in 2018/19

He said: “It’s getting the balance right. You can’t play suicidal football, especially in League One where most teams close you down. We have to play it out from the back as that’s our strength, but we can’t be conceding goals and losing games from it.

“We want to continue to play the same way whenever possible and I think the fans enjoyed watching us. But there will be times when you have to change - if it’s benefitting the opposition you don’t do it. You only carry on if it’s benefitting you.

“We know how we want to play but will the opposition let us do that? Sometimes it might be the surface, in League One it might not always be perfect and that might hinder us a little bit.

“And what’s the feeling in the team? Is everyone buzzing, ready to pop it about one or two touch, if not you might have to adapt.”
