ACADEMY VERDICT: DONCASTER ROVERS VS YOUNG BREWERS

5 March 2019

PROFESSIONAL Development Phase Lead Coach Sam Rose says that the Young Brewers have shown resilience with back-to-back wins, but emphasised that there is room for improvement.

The under 18s managed to overcome Huddersfield Town and Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Youth Alliance, scoring five goals and conceding just once across the two games.

Rose was pleased to see the Young Brewers grind out positive results, but says that the focus is always on developing and improving.

He said: “It was good to get a second win in the space of five days. I think it is fair to say that we could have played better than we did, but we kept a clean sheet and we saw some resilience, adaptability and a hardworking attitude from the boys, so they were able to grind out a result.

“A couple of weeks ago, we played back to back games against Norwich City and West Ham in the space of five days, and I have every confidence that that experience has helped the boys this week.

“It’s good to win both games. We didn’t play particularly well in both games, but it is probably a good sign that we can grind out results.

“Our focus now will be the lads improving on those performances and showing how capable we can be on the ball, and keeping more clean sheets between now and the end of the season.”
