NIGEL Clough is hopeful of wrapping up contract extensions for defenders John Brayford and Jake Buxton.
The pair have been offered fresh terms to extend their spells at the Pirelli Stadium, with both players out of contract this summer.
Brayford played a key role in our fine form towards the end of the season in his right-back berth, while club captain Buxton enjoyed a productive second half of the season as part of the defence that kept eight clean sheets in 2019.
"We’re trying to get a few done this week,” Clough said. "We’re getting closer with John Brayford.
"He’s away now for a week or so, so we’ll hope to get something tied up when he gets back.
"Jake Buxton is about there, which is good news for everybody. We’ve talked about his form in the second half of the season and he’s the captain of the club.
"I don’t think he’ll be much different next season to how he was at the end of last season. So that’s good news."
Clough remains keen to bring goalkeeper Brad Collins back to the club, but that depends on Collins’ own situation with parent club Chelsea, where he is out of contract.
“We’re just waiting for Brad Collins to get back off a stag weekend and we’re catching up with him later this week, just to see where we are and where he is with his situation," added Clough.
“We’re hoping Brad will stay first of all. We’ll know more later this week.”
