BREWERS LOOK TO MAKE PROGRESS IN TROPHY

8 November 2019

BURTON Albion will be through to the last 32 of the Leasing.com Trophy by avoiding defeat against Mansfield on Tuesday night.

The Brewers are at home to the League Two side in the final group game (kick off 7.45pm) and are looking to make progress in the competition for the first time.

Albion are currently third in the group after Tuesday’s game between Crewe and Everton U21s ended in a 2-2 draw with Crewe gaining a bonus point with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out success.

Everton U21s are top with six points, Crewe are second with four points, Albion have three points and Mansfield two.

The Brewers can top the group if they beat Mansfield by a three-goal margin and will guarantee second spot if they avoid defeat, even if Mansfield gain the bonus point.

The Brewers, Crewe and Mansfield could all conceivably end up on four points but Albion would have a better goal difference than Crewe and more goals scored than Mansfield.

A defeat to Mansfield would see the Brewers eliminated but Nigel Clough is looking to make progress.

He said: “We are only in three major cup competition and we are now out of the Carabao Cup. We have Salford in the FA Cup (tomorrow) and Mansfield in the Leasing.com Trophy and our aim is to make progress in both competitions.”

Only the Carling Stand (seated) is open for this fixture.
