INJURIES MOUNT UP AHEAD OF FA CUP REPLAY

16 November 2019

BURTON Albion’s growing injury list means that Nigel Clough can’t be sure of his starting line-up for the FA Cup replay against Salford on Tuesday (kick off 7.45pm).

Jake Buxton (back), John-Joe O’Toole (back) and David Templeton (knee) all had to come off in the game against Mansfield on Tuesday night to add to the already missing Richard Nartey, Reece Hutchinson and Lloyd Dyer. Oliver Sarkic and John Brayford had to play a part in the game on Tuesday despite carrying knocks.

That’s in addition to the game being played while Albion are missing players due to international call ups.

Clough said: “David Templeton’s knee was quite swollen after the game. John-Joe’s back was easing slightly, but you now when the likes of him and Jake Buxton are coming off that it’s something and with bad backs you don’t know how long it’s going to be. We hope we can get them out there on Tuesday night but then you have the knock-on effect as it’s Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday after that to consider as well.

"Richard Nartey and Reece Hutchinson have been to do a physio session but will have to train Monday if they are going to be in contention for Tuesday night. We will assess them on Monday morning.

“It’s going to be a testing time with the injuries.”

Clough also knows that Salford will be a handful.

“Salford are a good team with some very good players and when you have a team with their momentum built up over several seasons, they are formidable opponents.

“We should have won the game at Salford but we still know it will be a very tough game down here.”
