THE latest in a series of Inspiring Your Future events saw local students and Burton Albion staff visit MediaCityUK in Salford, Manchester.
The day, delivered by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) Outreach Team, saw aspiring students from Pingle Academy in Swadlincote and Thomas Alleyne’s High School in Uttoxeter receive an insight into what it is like to work in broadcasting and journalism.
The Inspiring Your Future brand aims to bring together groups of local businesses, stakeholders and students to inspire them to focus on their personal development.
The visit to MediaCityUK came following links that were formed with BBC Outreach Project Manager Shajan Miah, following his delivery at an Inspiring Your Future workshop earlier this year. Following this visit to the Pirelli Stadium, he invited Burton Albion staff and students to take a closer look at how the BBC operates on a day-to-day basis.
During the visit, students received a tour of the BBC studios, as well as media workshops and educational seminars, focusing on the potential roles that are available in the industry and how they could get involved.
Fleur Robinson, Commercial Director at Burton Albion FC, who was also interviewed by the BBC to talk about the financial state of football clubs, was delighted with the outcome of the visit.
She said: “I’m really pleased with the day and the insight that the BBC allowed us all to have.
“A big thank you must go to Shajan for making it an excellent day, and we’re really pleased with how well it helped to educate the students on potential careers in the media industry.
“Also, a thank you must go to the schools for allowing their students to join us for the opportunity. We look forward to working closely with the BBC and continuing our partnerships with the schools that attended in the near future!”
