KEITH GILROY JOINS ACADEMY COACHING STAFF

2 October 2019

FORMER Brewers player Keith Gilroy has joined Burton Albion Academy in a senior coaching role.

'Gilly' played for the Brewers from 2005-11 after being signed by Nigel Clough and quickly became a fans' favourite with his exciting wing play.

He has been at Derby County’s Academy in coaching roles for the past eight years and now joins Burton Albion as Head of Academy Coaching.

Gilroy said: "I'm delighted to be back. It's a new format in terms of the club's youth development and it will be looking after coaches and seeing how it aligns from under 9s to under 18s and from there to the first team."

Academy Manager Dan Robinson said: "It's a fantastic appointment and just what we needed - a former player who knows the club. He will come and oversee the football programme and help myself with the management side of the Academy. It's really positive for us."

Brewers manager Nigel Clough says that bringing on young players is vital to Burton Albion and that Gilroy's appointment can only enhance that.

He said: "He is one of the best signings we made here and took us onto new levels. He was a popular player and rightly so and it's great when you have ex players back involved in the game because they do have that connection with the club."
