CLOUGH PRAISES WALLACE'S VERSATILITY

14 October 2019

NIGEL Clough has praised the versatility of Kieran Wallace as the 24-year old becomes an increasingly important member of the Brewers squad.

Wallace originally joined up with Nigel Clough at Sheffield United and made 15 appearances before going out on loan to Lincoln City and Fleetwood Town respectively between 2015 and 2017.

He signed for Matlock Town in October 2017 before reuniting with Nigel Clough at Burton Albion almost exactly one year later.

Clough said: “We knew how good he was from Sheffield United and he had this cricket injury that stopped him going to Grimsby and he came training with us instead. He’s maturing, he feels comfortable and happy and I think that shows. To play centre half, left back, midfield equally comfortably and competently is a great testament to him.

“Because of the cover and versatility of people like Kieran and Lucas Akins we are happy with the size of the squad.”

There was also praise from the manager for young defender Reece Hutchinson.

“At the moment, Reece is first choice left back as he has done nothing wrong in the last couple of games. We have kept two clean sheets as well.

“We look at the squad and we have no problem with starting any of them. As long as they are up to speed, we are ready to play them. That’s the difference, as last season we looked around the bench and we didn’t have too many options.”
