LUCAS Akins will miss tomorrow’s Carabao Cup last 16 tie against Leicester City after picking up two bookings in the competition so far this year.
Nigel Clough admitted that missing the club’s most versatile player for such a big game will be a blow.
He said: “I’m not sure where he would have played positionally but, as always, he would have been in the team somewhere. It was a daft booking he picked up against Bournemouth and that means he misses out.”
Liam Boyce was on the subs' bench on Saturday with one eye on tomorrow night.
Clough said: “With Lucas suspended, if Liam had played and got an injury then to be without both of them, would have seriously hampered our chances. Liam will start and hopefully will be nice and fresh.”
Stephen Quinn was back on the pitch for the Brewers on Saturday after his injury and came through with no reaction.
“It was nice to get Stephen back on the pitch and after being out for a few weeks he got 70 minutes under his belt," said Clough.
“Richard Nartey had a tight hamstring on Saturday so we will just check on him but everyone else is good and we have a lot of people vying for places."
Clough says it will be interesting to see what side Brendan Rodgers will put out.
"It’s a competition that they could win but they are challenging for the top four as well so there will be different thoughts going through his head. You look at the strength of Leicester’s squad and they have some exceptional players.”
