THE Brewers will kick-off their first match in the Trophy competition against Crewe tomorrow (kick off 7.30pm).

The last time the Brewers met Crewe was back in 2016 and this resulted in a 1-1 draw for Burton after Lucas Akins scored in the 35th minute to equalise. Since then however, Crewe were relegated in last place in the 2015/16 season to join League Two. Both teams are in Northern Group E of the Trophy alongside Everton under 21s and Mansfield.

Liam Boyce (hamstring), Jake Buxton (ribs), Colin Daniel (hamstring) and Nathan Broadhead (hip) are all expected to miss out tomorrow.

Will Jaaskelainen has been called up to represent Finland in their under 21 squad so may have to miss the match against us.

Crewe beat Bradford 2-1 on Saturday and are third in League Two having won four out of their first six games.

The man in charge of the evening game is Anthony Backhouse and assisting him will be Wade Smith along with Ollie Williams. In his first four games of the season, Mr Backhouse has given out 12 yellows, six of these coming from one game, and one red.
