NIGEL Clough praised his team for extending the Brewers' unbeaten run to five games with a 3-1 win at Crewe.
Albion made a winning start to the Leasing.com Trophy thanks to goals from Stephen Quinn, Lucas Akins and Scott Fraser.
Clough said: "The only downside was not keeping another clean sheet which we probably deserved to but we played some good stuff and scored some good goals.
"They started brightly in the first 10 minutes and it's our ninth game in 31 days so we felt that. But once we got control of the game we scored three very good goals in the first half and I'm not sure how we didn't score one or two more in the second half.
"We had enough chances to really kill it off. We said not to sit back in the second half and we didn't and created nearly as many chances.
"We didn't have too many options tonight - everyone who was fit played. We tried to get a loan or two in before the deadline and didn't quite manage it so that's what we have got but it's reassuring when you see Joe Sbarra and Reece Hutchinson coming in and doing so well. At any time you don't mind using them."
The Brewers now have a well-earned break before taking on Coventry on September 14.
Clough said: "We don't have a league game on Saturday so we asked for one more effort and we got that."
