A DISAPPOINTED Jake Buxton said that he couldn’t defend his sides performance after a heavy defeat away at Lincoln City this afternoon.
The Brewers gave themselves an uphill battle early on after conceding two goals within eight minutes, something that Buxton said his side have done far too often this season.
“We didn’t start the game very well, found ourselves two goals behind early on and then decided that we would start playing,” said Buxton.
“We did ok first half with the ball. You can have all the play in the world, we can dictate play and look comfortable with the ball, but ultimately as a group we’re conceding far too many goals and today we looked vulnerable at the back.
“They had the quality and creativity to score goals – we had a lot of play today and never threatened in behind. Kane Hemmings came on and did a good job to put himself about, but I find it hard to try and defend the boys at times.
“I’ve stood here at times saying we’ve played well, we’ve dictated games, but we’ve come off the back of a defeat today and I can’t defend the players – the players, myself and my staff weren’t good enough.”
Buxton says that his side now face a huge game at home to Wigan on Tuesday evening.
“It’s disappointing, but we have to pick the players up and we have a massive game on Tuesday night.
“We need to be more ruthless and we’ve got to be more resilient as a team.”
