PREVIEW: OXFORD UNITED (H)

10 February 2020

OXFORD United will be tomorrow's visitors to the Pirelli Stadium, in the second of back-to-back home games for the Brewers (Tuesday 11 February, kick-off 7.45pm).

Tomorrow evening's fixture will see a collection for the Police Cadets, and Brewers and U's fans are asked to give generously when greeted by the volunteer collectors at both the turnstiles and main reception.

HEAD 2 HEAD

Now in the second half of the 2019-20 season, the Brewers can recall on their previous encounter with Oxford United - a 4-2 away victory at the Kassam Stadium in mid-August.

That Tuesday night away match saw the Brewers lead through a first league goal for Burton Albion from Jake Buxton, before falling 2-1 behind early in the second half. However, step-up Scotty Fraser, who secured the three points for the Brewers with a fine hat-trick.

The Brewers have met the U's on 14 occasions, winning six and drawing five. The largest winning margin between the two sides came on the 15 September 2012, when Albion came out 4-0 winners at the Pirelli Stadium in our first play-off season of League Two.

BREWERS TEAM NEWS

Brewers manager Nigel Clough saw Stephen Quinn come off against Gillingham with a groin strain, whilst Jake Buxton missed out entirely due to a rib injury. Scott Fraser was on the bench owing to a calf problem.

The only certain omission from the squad at this stage is Oliver Sarkic, who will miss out due to suspension, having picked up two yellow cards and a sending off in the match on Saturday.

OXFORD UNITED NEWS

The U's were unfortunate last Tuesday to come away the losers of an exciting FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Premier League Newcastle United. Oxford United took the Magpies to extra time and were only defeated thanks to a superb 116th minute winner from Allan Saint Maximin.

Their most recent result in Sky Bet League One came on Saturday, where they were at the end of a 4-0 loss to high-scorers Peterborough United.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Staffordshire-based referee Stephen Martin will be in charge of our game tomorrow night, assisted by Mark Dwyer and Michael George, with Simon Mather the Fourth Official.

Martin has officiated 24 matches this season, but only two of those have come in League One. Three yellow cards were issued between those two games, although Ipswich Town vs Blackpool saw Martin award two penalties.

In total, Martin has awarded 51 yellow cards, one converted to red, and also one straight dismissal, as well as a total of four penalties overall.
