LUCAS PRAISES JANUARY ADDITIONS

13 February 2020

Lucas Akins has praised the newest members of Burton Albion’s squad, as the Brewers look to utilise their talents in the fight for promotion.

Conor Shaughnessy, Joe Powell and Jamie Murphy all joined in the January transfer window, whilst Kwame Thomas signed his short-term deal a few days after the window shut in early February.

And the Brewers striker has complimented how well the players are settling in and already contributing to the effort on the pitch, which includes three superb Jamie Murphy goals in his first five games:

“His one against Rotherham was up there, but he is making a bit of a habit of it!

“He has come from quite a bad injury and hit the ground running; it is obviously a testament to him because he looks after himself and ultimately he is a very good player.

“We are delighted that he is in our group and contributing like we knew he would.”

Shaughnessy and Powell are the two younger faces to join the Brewers, and Lucas feels that their learning will continue as their experience grows:

“Conor has done really well and Joe Powell has too,” Akins said.

“We mentioned to them there [in the dressing room] that we won’t get too many harder games in terms of physicality against the teams we have played.

“What is nice is that when it is not pretty and the pitches aren’t at their best, they have really rolled up their sleeves and played for us.

When we do get the opportunity to play our football, they will enjoy it, but they will also appreciate this period later in their careers as well.”
