PREVIEW: Lincoln City Women vs Burton Albion Ladies

20 February 2020

BURTON Albion Ladies are set to return to league action this weekend as they travel to Lincoln City at the Sun Hat Villas & Resorts Stadium on Sunday, 23 February (kick-off 2pm).

Following the postponement of the home fixture against Sporting Khalsa on Wednesday, the players will have had a two-week break following a busy January schedule.

And manager James Billings knows how important every game from now until the end of the season will be.

“Every game is important,” he said. “We tell the players that whatever it is they are doing right now is the most important thing, and that Sunday will be no different.

“We know we’re in a difficult situation but we are still wanting to pick up as many points as we possibly can.

“We just ask the players for their continued effort and support. We have had another break in games because of the weather and opposition teams having cup fixtures, so I’m expecting the players to be buzzing to be back out wearing the black and yellow.”

With recent weather affecting the Brewers’ fixture list, games against both Sporting Khalsa and Solihull Moors had been postponed prior to this weekend’s trip to Lincoln.

Billings knows that the disruption has given himself and his coaching staff time to reiterate messages to his team.

“The flooding (at Rocester’s home ground) has caused some issues as we’ve had to postpone the Khalsa fixture, but recent reports are good, and I believe Rocester are hoping to have a game scheduled for within the next few weeks.

“We can’t deny however that there has certainly been a disruption over the past few weeks or so, and we all just want to play but the time off has given myself and the coaching team a chance to really reiterate the messages that we are trying to implement as a team over to the players.”

Lincoln City are currently fifth in the division, losing their last two league fixtures; away at Bedworth United on February 2, and at home to Leicester United on February 19.

However, their most recent league form has been offset by a convincing 10-2 victory in their County Cup semi-final against Lincoln Moorlands last Sunday.

You can watch Burton Albion Ladies face Lincoln City on Sunday 23 February, at the Sun Hat Villas & Resorts Stadium, Ashby Avenue, Lincoln, LN6 0DY. Kick-off is at 2pm.
