NIGEL Clough says there could be ins and outs at Burton Albion during the January transfer window
The manager has given an update on the transfer situation as he looks to ready his squad for the final months of the season.
He said: “There are few things happening at the moment, but I think it will be after the next two games. There is interest in a few of our players and we have interest in some coming in.
"It’s about trying to get the balance and we have two loan spots available. We will try and fill those with two quality players and maybe one or two permanents as well. I don’t think we need massively more numbers as everybody is getting near fit. Maybe one more than we have now but it will still be a tight squad.
"With no distractions now we can concentrate on the league and we are happy with the squad we have got."
Clough has also confirmed the club’s interest in taking Leeds defender Conor Shaughnessy on loan.
“He has 18 months left on his Leeds contract but has been out on loan at Mansfield so far this season. We are down the line with him but there is a small technical hitch at their end at the moment. He’s injured with a slight hamstring but should be fit in a week or so and with us having these two games and a break there is no particular rush.
“We need to make sure the deal is right and everyone is happy with it; we are just waiting for that small hitch to be sorted out between Leeds and the player. We nearly took him in the summer and we have always been impressed with him. He’s the sort of player we need. He gives us a little bit of defensive cover and holding midfield as well.”
Clough also confirmed that if the right offer came in for a first team player, the club would consider it.
He said: “With the Chairman we have got, every decision will be made with the best interests in the club in mind not for the next month, two or three months but for the best interests overall and that’s how he has always done it. The same principle will apply now.”
