BURTON Albion first team players Jake Buxton and John Brayford have visited a cancer recovery session run by Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT).
The Brewers defenders attended the Active Recovery session, which is delivered at The Workout Gym in Wetmore Road, Burton.
Both players took part in some of the activities on offer but also took the opportunity to chat with participants about their journeys with cancer.
Active Recovery is a cancer exercise and rehabilitation programme designed for anyone who has been recovering from or living with cancer within the last five years.
It is a free 12-month programme that gives participants access to a number of different health and wellbeing sessions delivered by BACT, including gym sessions at The Workout. There are also a number of alternative agility, balance and co-ordination classes that participants have access to.
All participants have access to an individual consultation, review and plan from BACT’s Level 4 GP referral qualified coach. The sessions are delivered at various venues, including the Pirelli Stadium.
Paul Gaskin, Health and Inclusion Manager at Burton Albion Community Trust, said: “It’s great to have Jake and John come along and support the participants. Many of them are only just starting the programme, so having them there to motivate and inspire really means a lot to everyone.”
Following the visit, Club Captain Jake Buxton, said: “It was great to visit the participants at the Active Recovery session and it’s really inspiring to see what they are doing and trying to overcome.
“Burton Albion Community Trust is a credit to what we try and do, by having the club at the heart of the community.
